Day Of Doom Interview

.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days? (Rich)We have been playing alot of shows and we have been getting ready for our release "The Gates of Hell" to be released June 6th on Lavadome productions  http://www.lavadome.org/

.You have a new album coming out in June, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past? (Rich) With The Gates we wanted to just push our self and also bring out the other style's of Metal we love. Our past releases "Night of Horror and Slaves to Insanity" had the there own feel mostly brutal death metal but Gate's has more of a progressive feel to it, longer songs and twisted guitar solo's. (Doug) We come from a time long forgotten, We are they who howled at the midnight moon during the 80's and 90's schooled on old world death metal and into a new error of brutality armed with the chaos of modern barbarity. To me this new release is a tutorial for the luridly obscene and unbinds the boundries from all our other releases.
.In the beginning the band was instrumental but know has vocals and lyrics, what was the decision behind adding these into your musical sound? (Rich) We have been asked this a few times and the truth is we always had the idea of putting vocal's into the music but we put some stuff on Myspace and a few people just thought we we're an instrumetal band but that was never the case. We do have versions of those demos with vocals and we do love instrumentals and have one on The Gates of Hell Then we'll be doing another sick one on our next release.
.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics the band explores with the newer music and also do the band members have any interest in Occultism? (Doug) In a way, we are a cult in a sense that this music is a way to vent our anger at religion amongst other things in general. Religion is angry, saturated with fear and lies intended to nourish the simple minded closed. I suppose our lyrics are intended not for you to pick sides but to open peoples minds to the grand underworld of our Death Metal Cult. Follow us...
.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Day Of Doom'? (Rich) Many people think the name came from a Superman comic but the truth is the name came from the character Thusa Doom from the movie Conan the Barbarian. In the movie Thusa Doom said "Purging is at last at hand. Day of Doom is here. All that is evil, all their allies; your parents, your leaders, those who would call themselves your judges; those who have lied and corrupted the Earth, they shall all be cleansed".At that moment the name of the band was spawned.
.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance? (Rich) One show that stand's out was playing with Deicide at Gramercy Theater. The turn out was great and we crushed it that night and another show that stands out was playing with the mighty Suffocation at Webster Hall the place went ape shit as for our stage performance we feel we give off a vibe that is pure evil and power and the fan's have been feeding off of that vibe for sure. It's no holds barred when we hit the stage.
(Doug) Webster Hall yes! A kick ass show and we fall into our natural zones on stage as if our alter egos have broken thier demonic silence and have unleashed thier rage upon this dying world in the form of relentless drums and doom, maniacal guitars and the diabolic lower register of ear ripping bass.
.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released? (Rich) We do have a local show May 31st and are planing a CD release party (T.B.A) but no touring plan's at the moment but we would love to bring Day of Doom to the masses.
.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal? (Rich) It has been great. Many have said that the music has a old school feel with a new fresh outlook as well, so far we are very happy with the responce world wide. (Doug) We're looking forward to more positive feedback for this new release and I can personally guarantee that it will rip your face off so badly that you'll have to put it on over and over again just to get it back!
.Are any of the band members involved with any other musical projects these days? (Rich) No day of doom is our full time and only band we all play in and we feel that's the best way to go so all our focus can be put into bringing the best into Day of Doom.
.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? (Rich) We will always test the limits musically and never let it get stale. For the next release we plan on writing what could be looked at as the Death Metal version of Rush's 2112. (Doug)  Expect a psychological whirlwind of esoteric tones and mind altering madness that will take you on a journey through the remnants of what is left of hell after we are through with it and unto earth thy doom explodes!
.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? (Rich) Being from Long Island, Suffocation has always been an influence on us but we have always made it a point to not be carbon copy of them. Some other band's we love are Gorguts, Ripping corpse, Human Remains, Damonacy, Lethargy, Death, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Iron maiden, Rush, Dream Theater and Kiss as for what we're listening to today Nero Di Marte, Pyrrhon, Animals As Leaders but hands down the new Gorguts and Suffocation has not left the cd player.
.What are some of your non musical interests? (Rich) We are very into art, Our guitar player Doug has his horror comic called Insane Tales From The Dead. If your into sick horror comics, you should check out his work for sure! (Doug) Terror yarns of decay and madness await you!www.insanetalesfromthedead.com Order issue number one now or be doomed!
.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? (Rich) We would like to say thanks to everyone who checked us out live or took the time to check out our music, it means alot to us and trust that if you love crushing brutal metal get your self over to the Lavadome website  http://store.lavadome.org/  and order a copy of The Gates of Hell and you will not be disappointed Stay evil DAY OF DOOM IS NEAR.
