Broken Brain Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Broken Brain was formed in Valencia (Spain) around september 2007, even though we have been playing together in different bands since 2002/03. We kind of got back together, the four founding members so to speak, with just metal as our common influence.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?
We are at some point between Thrash and Death metal, with some hardcorish approach. Raw and old school oriented.

3.The band has been around since 2007 but so far has only released one demo, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during this time period?
Lets say the band wasnt too active in the early days. Re-taking the band took some time, that plus personal issues, working, etc. It was around 2010 when we started to put more time and effort into the band, plus some gigs locally.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Mainly Horror themes, from the fiction or real life.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Broken Brain'?
We had several options for the name of the band, most of them were discarded because they were too hilarious, Broken Brain stood as the solid one from the list, and the inspiration for that one came from the legendary Punk band (Eskorbuto), theres a song called Cerebros Destruidos/Destroyed Brains.
Besides that, sounds metal, yet sounds hardcore, so we all agreed.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We recently played one of our bests shows in terms of sound/attendace/equipment. We played this last June with Reincarnation (Brutal Death,Spain) and Vaginal Kebab (Goregrind, Spain). The bands were amazing at stage, and we had an amazing show as well.
Usually people respond very good in case they never heard of us, I would describe our sound live as Loud and Raw. Our vocalist can get really wild, if he gets a chance to get into the pit, he will we there!

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Due to band members work outside the band, we wont take any gig until september.
After that we will continue playing live locally as much as we can.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death and thrash metal?
Quite low due to minimal/non-existent promoting outside Spain. Looking forward to change this now that we are working with Sepulchral Silence for the digital distribution worldwide.

9.When can we expect new material and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are actually working with Base Records to remaster/re-release our demo (2014), besides that, we already have a decent amount of material.
Musically, pretty much nothing would change, after so many years playing together, music comes very naturally.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Mario (Guitars): Early Sepultura, Death, Slayer, Obituary, Biohazard. I usually listen to a lot of Swedish Death Metal.
Jose (Drums): Mostly influenced by classic 80s classic bands like Helloween, Maiden, Anthrax, Metallica, SOD...
Vicent (Vocals): Punk, Hardcore, Grindcore, Thrash. Nowadays from Terror to Spasm.
Victor (Bass): My main influences would be Venom, Sodom, Death. Nowadays, Mastodon, Electric Wizard, Neurosis, etc

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Victor: Old Horror movies, (Hammer), (Amicus).
Jose: History, Sword fighting.
Mario: Lovecraft, old school shooters.
Vicent: Politics.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
In no time we will have enough material to release our 1st Full length, stay in touch through our Facebook for news(https://www.facebook.com/BrokenBrainValencia)  and check Sepulchral Silence Records for the digital distribution of our music. Besides, our demo will be remastered and re-released in physical format very soon.
Keep it Broken!
